Gospel of Matthew

The third gospel Threlkeld began to translate into the local language was Matthew, but he did not complete the task before the mission was closed. Use the buttons below to access each individual chapter, where an English meaning of every word in Threlkeld's Awabakal translation is provided.

Matthew

In his 8th Annual Report of 31 December 1838 Threlkeld listed the texts he was then engaged in completing or had had published:

Threlkeld published manuscripts into Aboriginal language

From item 5 in this list it appears that he was in the process of completing the translating of Matthew’s gospel up to and including Chapter 5. If this were the case then some of it is missing, for the Mitchell Library holds up to Chapter 4 Verse 19 only.
